George Will, entitled rich people
Will applauds Romney's talk of a "merit-based" society as opposed to Obama's supposed "entitlement society." Does he mean merit like the $105,000 a year raise to the Pepco CEO while his customers sit in the dark and his employees work 20 hour days to restore power- and he sits at home drinking his wine? And does Will reject his Social Security checks, his Medicare and all the tax breaks he takes? Entitlement, socialized medicine and basically handouts from the government. If you own a house you can get lots of money back because of the loan interest tax break, something that people who can't afford a house or condo and have to rent don't get. It has been estimated that that tax break alone costs the government more than all welfare payments. What other tax breaks does he use? My uncle once bragged to me about how his company owed $1 million in taxes but only paid $300,000 because of his cleverness including having his wife and 6 kids "own" the company instead of him. Is that merit or entitlement? Or the agricultural barons who get all sorts of federal assistance which was designed to help the family farmer, not people who own millions of acres and never do a bit of farm work themselves. Merit or entitlement?
